Welcome Rescue Rangers!

Hello! Welcome Rescue Rangers to your new home! Come on in and check out the amenities. Some of it will be very familiar, the rest of it is just a matter of getting used to the differences.

We are all working hard to make sure that the Community Spotlight gets launched without a hitch! I doubt that without a hitch is possible given the complexity of what Markos and his team has taken on. But we as Rescue Rangers intend to do what we can to make the launch smooth!

So before getting comfy there are a few things that you need to do:

  • First: Accept your invitation to the group.
  • Second: Log in and check your home page.
  • Third: Read Got a Grip's The How to rescue in beta guide.
  • Fourth: Hit the diaries link on the top of the Home page, this will give you a way to begin. Read and then rescue by clicking the rescue button on the bottom of your page. Only Rescue Rangers have this button, that's why you have a life preserver badge under your user name on your "My Page" home page.
  • How Is DK4 Different? There will not be a poster or editor for the day. We will be rescuing to a box on the Front Page called the Community Spotlight. Since this is there all day, our rescues will be shown continuously and therefore it will be more dynamic. We will rescue the diaries from the recent list and then the next Ranger will schedule your selections in an overlapping fashion. You as the reader for your shift will serve as the scheduler for the shift just before yours. In this way we will have a continuous flow of fresh diaries into the CS box.
  • How is DK4 the same? Well our standards as Rangers have not changed. Our mission is the same as that set forth by our founder SusanG. I advise everyone to refresh themselves on that mission before we start. The tools we are used to using already are still here. The community will also be here.
  • How is DK4 better? It's easier to rescue in real time. We don't have to blurb or code the diaries in a list. We just read the diary and if it's rescue-worthy ,according our standards, we simply hit the rescue link and a box appears which checks whether we really want to rescue this diary. It gives us the option of adding a note. I recommend that we all use these notes to add our reasoning, much like the blurbs that we are so used to submitting. I add my User name like so (vcmvo2) so that the following rescue scheduler will know my thoughts before scheduling my selections.

We also have greater visibility on top of the Front Page and it can be continually added to all day, not just once a day at 8PM.

The Community will have no trouble finding us as they can communicate with us in the private messaging center here with their suggestions, instead of trying to locate our email address.I would hope that the community will continue to submit their selections.
